HUGE STATUE: Iron Legs and Feet of Iron and Clay!

This last level of metals that made up the HUGE STATUE in King Nebuchadnezzer’s dream was IRON / IRON MIXED WITH CLAY. We learned previously that the metals from top to bottom (Head to Toe) decreased in strength and and value — Gold, Silver, Bronze. Now however the building material is IRON, which is obviously MUCH STRONGER than the first three.

“Finally, there will be A FOURTH KINGDOM, strong as iron—for iron breaks and smashes everything—and as iron breaks things to pieces, so it will crush and break all the others.” (Daniel 2:40)

Now I’d like to show you how the dream that Daniel interpreted in 2:40 compares with what we find  in his vision, described in Daniel 7:7

(“In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon, Daniel had a dream, and visions passed through his mind as he was lying in bed. He wrote down the substance of his dream.  2 Daniel said: ‘In my vision at night I looked, and there before me were the four winds of heaven churning up the great sea. 3 Four great beasts, each different from the others, came up out of the sea….)

7 “After that, in my vision at night I looked, and there before me was A FOURTH BEAST —terrifying and frightening and very powerful. It had large IRON teeth; it crushed and devoured its victims and trampled underfoot whatever was left.  It was different from all the former beasts …(Daniel 7:7)

IRON TEETH on the fourth beast // LEGS OF IRON on the fourth level of the huge statue that King Nebuchadnezzar saw in his dream.

By comparing the last part of the huge statue prophecy with the last beast represented in the four beasts prophecy, we can come to the following conclusions:

  • Daniel INTERPRETED a dream (chapter 2)  vs. Daniel HAD a dream (chapter 7).

  • Both (the legs and beast #4) are incredibly STRONG and POWERFUL.

  • Both appear to be VIOLENT in nature.

  • Both are DIFFERENT from the analogy that precedes it. (Example: Bronze thighs weaker than IRON legs; the 3rd beast given authority, while the 4th beast,  crushed and devoured at will)

As you can see, the two prophecies are similar, THEREFORE we can conclude that they MIGHT refer to shared fulfillments. OR NOT.

For decades, prophecy “experts” insisted that the four sections of the statue represented THE SAME HISTORICAL EVENTS as the four great beasts that Daniel saw later in his life. (We’ll come back to this.)

Going back to Daniel 2, let’s continue …

“Just as you saw that THE FEET AND TOES were partly of baked clay and partly of iron, so THIS WILL BE A DIVIDED KINGDOM; yet it will have some of the strength of iron in it, even as you saw iron mixed with clay. As the toes were partly iron and partly clay, so THIS KINGDOM will be PARTLY STRONG AND PARTLY BRITTLE. And just as you saw the iron mixed with baked clay, so THE PEOPLE will be a mixture and WILL NOT REMAIN UNITED, any more than iron mixes with clay.” (Daniel 2:40-43)

I’m not going to go deeply into the facts about how this “kingdom” manifested in recorded history, because that takes up too much space. HOWEVER, I will give you links to sites that explain the author’s reasoning about WHY this part of the statue symbolizes THE GREEK / ROMAN EMPIRE …

Okay, I’m going to stop here for now and recommend that you read the entire Book of Daniel before we continue.
