I have often wondered about prophecies that spoke about the horrible state of the Holy Land, since I had not been aware of the Promised Land in that condition. Then I began reading The Oracle, the importance of world history came alive.
Arguably THE MOST ACCURATE, FULFILLED PROPHECY in the Old Testament regarding GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE — THE REGATHERING OF THE NATION OF ISRAEL …
22 “Therefore say to the Israelites, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: It is not for your sake, people of Israel, that I am going to do these things, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations where you have gone. 23 I will show the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, the name you have profaned among them. Then the nations will know that I am the Lord, declares the Sovereign Lord, when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.
24 “‘For I will take you out of the nations; I will gather you from all the countries and bring you back into your own land. 25 I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. 26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. 28 Then you will live in the land I gave your ancestors; you will be my people, and I will be your God.‘” (Spoken through the prophet Ezekiel; Ezekiel 36:22-28)
The Lord God has revealed to his servant, Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, that THREE PROPHECIES regarding THREE INDIVIDUALS who converged in Israel within one specific year: 1867!
1: Mark Twain / Samuel Clemens (In Hebrew means “God has heard.”)
PROPHECY OF THE STRANGER (Deuteronomy 29:22-23)
“… foreigners [the stranger] who come from distant lands will see the calamities that have fallen on the land and the diseases with which the Lord has afflicted it. 23 The whole land will be a burning waste of salt and sulfur—nothing planted, nothing sprouting, no vegetation growing on it. It will be like the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboyim, which the Lord overthrew in fierce anger. “
Israel was originally described as a fertile and fruitful land flowing with milk and honey. But when the Jews were driven into exile following the destruction of Jerusalem and the second temple in 70 A.D., the Promised land became a desolate horror — parched, lifeless, and barren.
Samuel Clemens (MARK TWAIN) was an American SKEPTIC who bore witness to the land’s devastation despite himself. (Because Scripture has many layers, it’s important to understand. In one sense, this verse speaks of all who would be stunned by THE LAND’S DESOLATION. But on the other hand, the prophecy specifies ONE (nakri in Hebrew) STRANGER or foreigner.
MARK TWAIN was working as a journalist on the West Coast of America when he decided to journey across the world on a steamship. It took months to travel to Europe and the Middle East before he reached his destination — Israel and the city of Jerusalem … in 1867!
The original prophecy was spoken by God through his servant Moses and had layers of meaning that transcends time and space. The nakri (THE STRANGER) would come in an age or generation (akrahone in Hebrew) — referring to the latter days, the end times. THE PROPHECY OF THE STRANGER leads into a prophecy that is specifically about THE REGATHERING OF THE JEWISH PEOPLE …
“When all these blessings and curses I have set before you come on you and you take them to heart wherever the Lord your God disperses you among the nations, 2 and when you and your children return to the Lord your God and obey him with all your heart and with all your soul according to everything I command you today, 3 then the Lord your God will restore your fortunes[a] and have compassion on you and gather you again from all the nations where he scattered you. 4 Even if you have been banished to the most distant land under the heavens, from there the Lord your God will gather you and bring you back. 5 He will bring you to the land that belonged to your ancestors, and you will take possession of it” (Deuteronomy 30:1-5)
“Mark Twain had no idea that his dark witness of the Holy Land would be the fulfillment ancient prophecy.” (p. 56)
2: Charles Warren / The pioneer of Jerusalem archaeology
PROPHECY OF THE MAN WITH THE MEASURING LINE (Zechariah 2:1-6)
“‘Then I looked up, and there before me was a man with a measuring line in his hand. 2 I asked, “Where are you going?”
He answered me, “To measure Jerusalem, to find out how wide and how long it is.”
3 While the angel who was speaking to me was leaving, another angel came to meet him 4 and said to him: “Run, tell that young man, ‘”Jerusalem will be a city without walls because of the great number of people and animals in it. 5 And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within.’
6 “’Come! Come! Flee from the land of the north,” declares the Lord, “for I have scattered you to the four winds of heaven,” declares the Lord.”‘”
In this prophecy, THE MAN WITH THE MEASURING LINE is identified as an angel. Again it has layers of meaning that transcend time and space. It was spoken to God’s servant Zechariah through an angel, but it also foreshadows a human recipient — an engineer from England, who was NOT A PROPHET, but who answered a prophetic call to measure Jerusalem and write down a vision concerning the land and its future.
CHARLES WARREN was led to write down a specific plan to bring the vision to fruition — Land of Promise. Keep in mind, Warren wrote this when the land lay desolate. The same time as when MARK TWAIN was led to give testimony to the horrible condition of the Promised Land — 1867 CHARLES WARREN would lay the foundation for the restoration of Jerusalem and a call to the scattered exiles to return to the land God promised to the descendants of Jacob — ISRAEL!
At this time, the last great empire to have control over the Holy Land was the Ottoman Empire, and it had incurred a huge debt. Charles Warren envisioned that debt could be used to bring Israel back from the dead (Ezekiel 36), leading to the birth of their nation. He knew about the biblical prophecies that foretold the return to the land and the establishment of a Jewish state. The Ottoman Land Code of 1867 would insure that large tracts of land could be purchased for aliyah — return of exiles to the Promised Land.
Now the prophecy penned by Ezekiel in chapter 36 makes sense:
“’Son of man, prophesy to the mountains of Israel and say, “Mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Lord. 2 This is what the Sovereign Lord says: The enemy said of you, ‘Aha! The ancient heights have become our possession.’ 3 Therefore prophesy and say, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: Because they ravaged and crushed you from every side so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations and the object of people’s malicious talk and slander … I swear with uplifted hand that the nations around you will also suffer scorn. The towns will be inhabited and the ruins rebuilt. 11 I will increase the number of people and animals living on you, and they will be fruitful and become numerous. I will settle people on you as in the past and will make you prosper more than before.
Then you will know that I am the Lord.'”
And the meaning of that haunting prophecy about “dry bones” coming back to life (Ezekiel 37) comes to life …
“The hand of the Lord was on me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the Lord and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, ‘Son of man, can these bones live?’
I said, ‘Sovereign Lord, you alone know.’ …
And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them. and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army….
“Son of man, these bones are the people of Israel. They say, ‘Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.’ 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: My people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord.’”
TWAIN and WARREN both came to Jerusalem in 1867.
“Where Twain could barely see how the land could support the most meager of populations, Warren wrote (The Innocents Abroad) of a future where the land could accommodate millions of Jewish people.” (p. 59)
3: Theodore Herzl / Founder of political Zionism (“Father of the Jewish State”)
THE PROPHECY OF THE RESTORATION OF ZION (Deuteronomy 30:3)
“It will no longer be said to you, ‘Forsaken,’ nor to your land will it any longer be said, ‘Desolate’; but you will be called, ‘My delight is in her.'”
CHARLES WARREN was passionate about the restoration of Jerusalem. He wrote a specific vision concerning the desolate land and its future — Land of Promise. In his writing, Warren suggested that the debt that had been incurred by the Ottoman Empire — the people who had conquered the land — could be used to bring about the return of the Jewish people. The Ottoman Land Code of 1867 set in motion a series of events that would lead to the restoration of Israel, and witness the blossoming of its deserts!
In 1894, MARK TWAIN (Prophecy of the Stranger) and THEODORE HERZL (a European journalist and playwright) were in Paris at the same time and became friends — Jonathan Cahn calls this “a significant convergence” — when Zionism was born. So the Prophecy of the Stranger led into the prophecy of the Man With the Measuring Line, which eventually connected with the prophecy of the Restoration of Zion.
Would you agree that this had to have been “a God thing”?
